Ridiculous Music Flashback: Sylk E. Fyne ft. Chill “Romeo and Juliet”
See this is why LA caught such a bad rap (pun fully intended) in the ’90s when it came to rap music, and why some female emcees are still so scared to set foot onto the platform.
Watch this video and then we’ll discuss it.
So here’s what’s going on. Sylk E. Fyne and her wet set are sitting on her bed watching Romeo and Juliet, which leads her to remember “hot sex on a platter just to make her sweat”. While all of this is going on, some guy named Chill is in a pimp suit with a cheetah print hat awkwardly swaying in front of cop cars. Then Sylk E. Fyne reminisces on that great love story with her pimp prince and was like “oh em gee! We’re like Romeo and Juliet!” A-ha! Then all of a sudden she is the one on the television screen. Oh boy! The high moment was Sylk E. “honoring” the life of Eazy-E with the line ‘Cause I don’t sleep around, because it’s sleazy / good lesson taught by my big homie Eazy. Um, ok. FYI Wikipedia tells us this song reached #6 on the Billboard Singles Chart. And here you thought we had it bad now. Don’t get it twisted; after Sylk E. released her debut Raw Sylk she was on the come up, having worked with Snoop Dogg, Too $hort and one of the Bone Thugs-N-Harmony guys (Bizzy Bone).
Update on Sylk E. Fyne: There is none, besides her personal MySpace page, where she makes ample use of glitter graphics and the Mobster application. Career-wise, she was last seen releasing her second album The Cum Up in 2000. Classy.
